Kate Ferrell
Kate creates intuitive abstract and abstracted representational paintings, including still life and landscapes. Working with acrylic, collage, and other mixed media, she builds expressive, gestural movement into her work. Her love for nature was shaped by childhood trips to the Great Smoky Mountains and her mother’s work as a gardener and floral designer. These influences inform her approach, guiding her to convey not just what she sees, but the emotions and movement of the natural world—calm, wonder, and vitality. Believing that both viewing and creating art are acts of mindfulness, Kate approaches each piece with a sense of presence, allowing spontaneity to guide her brushstrokes. Her work conveys a sense of freedom, groundedness in the present moment, and the feeling of being fully alive. She enjoys collaborating with fellow artists, teaching and attending art classes, and supporting local nonprofits through her work.
Originally from Knoxville, Kate is now based in Nashville, TN, where she lives with her family. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at a local nonprofit, and teaches mindfulness-based fitness at Barre3 Nashville. While much of her work is commission-based, she has exhibited and sold paintings across Nashville and the Southeast, sharing her belief in art’s ability to heal and inspire.
